Having drilled out the stuck screw from the backing plate, I could finally get in with a pair of pliers to remove this screw. Unfortunately the switch assembly proved to be beyond saving so had to be replaced - I would have had to get the backing plate off anyway though, so would have still had to get the drill out.

Having drilled out the stuck screw from the backing plate, I could finally get in with a pair of pliers to remove this screw.

Unfortunately the switch assembly proved to be beyond saving so had to be replaced - I would have had to get the backing plate off anyway though, so would have still had to get the drill out.
