I think the original routing for this duct probably had it disappearing behind the battery tray and into the inner wing. However aside from a little additional protection from road grime there seems to be little benefit to doing this. Flex and stretch isn't an issue as everything involved is rigidly fastened together...so I went for the more compact routing option.
