Four unidentified people were burned beyond recognition after a wrong-way driver smashed head-on into their car early Saturday on Highway 99 near the rest stop here.

California Highway Patrol officers had no way Saturday of identifying the victims, their sexes, hometowns or their small foreign sedan because all was consumed in the 3:02 a.m. fire. Even the license plates were unreadable, officer John Brugger said.
