My old Nike Site I served 14 months before Vietnam came my way. They closed the Nike Installations all over North America and I reported to Vietnam without legal assignment since I had re enlisted for the Nike Crewman mos. They scratched their heads not knowing what to do with me because my orders were assigning me to a Hawk Missile Site off the coast of Vietnam, unfortunately they were full and needed no bodies. They ask me what I wanted to do, I chose Aviation and loved every minute. My base in Alvarado Tx is standing exactly as it was left in 1969, only minor changes have been made by two individual owners of the separate properties.
