Unfortunately the fuel tanks on these things are very prone to rotting out. The lip around the top edge is the biggest issue there as it causes water to collect on the top. Being right next to the front wheel probably doesn't help either...
Sadly new tanks are hard to come by so I'll be needing to have a new one manufactured.
