Photinus pyralis, or the eastern firefly. One important way we can help firefly conservation in eastern north america is to keep outdoor lights extinguished at night, as much as possible. This helps male & female fireflies find each other! My favorite firefly fact is that vernal pools are important for firefly reproduction beause their larvae are aquatic.
